Title: | Diphtheria: another risk of travel. | Austin Authors: | Antos, H;Mollison, L C;Richards, Michael J;Boquest, A L;Tosolini, F A | Affiliation: | Austin Hospital, Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia | Issue Date: | 1-Nov-1992 | Publication information: | The Journal of Infection; 25(3): 307-10 | Abstract: | A 19-year-old woman presented with cellulitis of her foot 10 days after returning from Bali. Swabs of a central necrotic area grew toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae biotype gravis. The patient was treated with parenteral penicillin and made a complete recovery. Diphtheria immunisation should be regularly updated for travellers to the tropics. Clinical and laboratory recognition of this infection is essential for appropriate public health measures to be undertaken. | Gov't Doc #: | 1474268 | URI: | https://ahro.austin.org.au/austinjspui/handle/1/9692 | Journal: | The Journal of infection | URL: | https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1474268 | Type: | Journal Article | Subjects: | Adult Cellulitis.drug therapy.microbiology Contact Tracing Corynebacterium diphtheriae.isolation & purification Diphtheria.drug therapy.microbiology.transmission Female Foot Diseases.drug therapy.microbiology Humans Penicillins.therapeutic use Risk Factors Travel |
