Migraine is a common neurological disorder, affecting one in seven people, and is the second leading cause of disability worldwide. The aim of this article is to summarise the diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment of migraine. Key to limiting the disability of migraine and progression to chronic migraine is addressing modifiable risk factors, including implementing effective preventive treatment and avoiding overuse of acute treatment. In this article, the authors review strategies for effective acute and preventive treatment of migraine and introduce the new treatments of migraine targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide signalling.en
